Service Record
Dais has served as a security officer on a number of Starfleet vessels, being transferred either because of ship destruction during the Tholian/Breen War (USS Comstock) or at the request of her commanding officers (every other ship).
She earned her shot at Chief TAC/SEC while serving as a lieutenant j.g. on the USS Ranger during the Tholian/Breen War. With the Ranger crippled and a Breen raiding shuttle inbound, Dais beamed aboard the raiding shuttle wearing an EVA suit. She blew a hole in the shuttle’s hull, venting the Breen into space. She then jumped through the hole, and bounced from Breen to Breen, tearing off their helmets. Though impressed by this tactic, Ranger’s CO, Commander Luko, was disturbed by Dais’s obvious mirth and maniacal giggling during debriefing. No longer wanting Dais aboard the Ranger, Luko recommended her for a promotion and called in a big favor with Captain Theresa Faisal to have Dais fill Helena’s Chief TAC/SEC position which had been essentially vacant since Jorian Dao was promoted to First Officer. Although Faisal was initially deterred by Dais’s psych reports, Luko argued that Helena's chief engineer accused docking clamps of “getting fresh”, and her CMO routinely quarantined himself.
Childhood
Dais’s father was a Nausicaan merchant’s guard. Her mother is a Bolian fertility expert. Dais’s conception was the result of a challenge issued at a science conference, wherein a human xenobiologist announced that Nausicaans and Bolians couldn’t produce viable offspring. Within six months, Dais’s mother had become pregnant, though whether this was a result of intimate relations or a more clinical transfer of genetic material has never been revealed.
Dais grew up on Bolarus IX, cared for by a series of nannies and mostly ignored by her mother.
Dais’s superior strength, rapid healing capabilities and Nausicaan ability to derive pleasure from pain made her far more difficult to handle than a normal child and nannies tended to resign quickly. Dais formed few, if any, emotional bonds throughout her formative years, finding solace only in combat training and in reading her mother’s vast literary collection.
Upon reaching the age of majority, Dais left Bolarus IX and attempted to find a place for herself in Nausicaan society. However, Nausicaans in general found her mixed genetics repellant, and Dais found Nausicaans’ lack of culture beyond pain and violence to be less than satisfying to a mind filled with history and literature of dozens of races. Shortly after giving up on Nausicaans, Dais applied to Starfleet Academy, hoping Federation military service would satisfy both her intellectual needs and her desire for combat.
Academy Years
Dais had a hard time at the Academy, succeeding in spite of social difficulties. Although many peers were initially attracted to her for her Bolian sensuality and physical beauty, her Nausicaan attributes quickly dissuaded anyone from achieving close and/or lasting associations.
Dais never led a class in academics, but she excelled in tactics and all forms of combat. It was clear there was only one role for her within Starfleet. As one professor noted in her record, “It’s to the benefit of us all that she succeeds in other areas enough that she can graduate, as quite frankly, I’d be afraid to flunk her.”
Aboard the Helena
Dais took her post as Chief TAC/SEC aboard Helena while Faisal and Dao were still searching for Commander Corey Aster. Dais’s presence in dealings with Romulan bureaucrats helped expedite combing through medical facilities for unnamed patients.
Medical Record
Dais has sustained countless minor injuries both in combat and from exercise programs on the holodeck with safety protocols disabled. Her Nausicaan side allows for rapid healing, empowering her to take extreme physical risks. Furthermore, her Nausicaan predilection for deriving pleasure from pain drives her to take those risks, even when they’re unnecessary.
Personal Life
Since reaching adulthood, Dais hasn’t stayed in one place long enough to make friends, and even if she had, her disposition towards violence (and sheer enjoyment of it) scares most people away. Due to severe abandonment issues resulting from her childhood, Dais is distrustful of anyone who expresses interest in her, though she secretly longs for a place to belong.
