Sha'kev was a flamboyant Andorian criminal, part of the dread Orion Syndicate. On stardate 55409.2, he kidnapped three Starfleet officers, Lt. Cmdr. Robin Lefler, Lt. Toby Witczak, and Lt. Luko. Over the course of the kidnapping, he murdered Witczak, injured Luko, and forced Lefler to board a derelict Starfleet vessel the USS Maverick, and extract trilithium resin from its warp core. This was later used to destroy the first Grey research facility. The Excelsior intervened and was able to rescue Lefler and Luko, but Sha'kev and his crew escaped.
Later, he was tortured and killed as part of a complicated plot to steal Grey and tetrahedron technology for Siroc and the Tholian Assembly. His partner in crime, Vorina, was the only survivor of the attack.
