Service Record
Childhood
Faisal was born on Risa, to an Italian mother and an Arab father. Her mother worked as a lawyer for the planet’s tourist interests, and her father was a Jamaharon Adept. Thus she was raised between the polar opposites of total open-mindedness and arguing like a pit-bull.
Academy Years
Faisal entered the academy with the intention of becoming a ship’s counselor. However, by the end of her first year, it had become clear this was not her path as she seemed more inclined to give orders than make suggestions. But what she lacked in counseling skills, she more than made up for in the areas of tactical analysis and improvisation. While acting as captain during the Kobayashi Maru simulation (now updated to utilize Dominion forces), Faisal exploited a theoretical weakness in Jem’Hadar shields and “confiscated” the enemies’ supply of Ketracel-white. She then offered to return it in exchange for the damaged freighter. Although the now-suicidal Jem'Hadar still destroyed her ship, the Academy instructors gave Faisal high marks for the attempt.
Aboard the Sadat
At the rank of lieutenant, Faisal served as a Conn officer aboard the New Orleans-class frigate, USS Sadat. She was aboard the Sadat on its patrol in the Briar Patch when it was attacked by Siroc's forces at Tren'La, and narrowly escaped destruction when Siroc flaunted his control over the tetrahedrons. ("Beachhead")
Faisal’s superior performance at conn led to a promotion to lieutenant commander and command of nightwatch aboard the Sadat.
Aboard the Helena
XO of Helena
Faisal was offered the position of First officer aboard the USS Helena by Tolian Naros subsequent to an exhaustive search of suitable candidates assigned to the Briar Patch. Impressed by Faisal’s innovation under fire, Naros felt she’d be the best choice for XO of a ship conducting mostly covert operations near or behind enemy lines.
Faisal accepted the offer without hesitation, was promoted to commander and assigned to the USS Helena immediately after the ship's shakedown cruise. (See Her Battle Lanterns Lit)
As Helena’s XO, Faisal met or exceeded Naros’s expectations, always following his often cryptic orders, though sometimes she would re-interpret those orders if she felt it served the greater good. (See Its Hour Come Round At Last)
Captain of Helena
Following the loss of Naros during the final battle at the Grey Dyson Sphere, Faisal was left in control of the USS Helena during early clean-up of the newly metreon-free Briar Patch. Shortly thereafter, she was promoted to captain and officially given command of Helena during a ceremony presided over by Admiral Knapp.
Medical Record
Faisal was seriously injured when a console overloaded during the attack on Centris III ("Heavy Losses"). She was transported to sickbay immediately, and made a full recovery.
Personal Life
Though no longer associated with Risa (her parents relocated to Earth the same year Faisal graduated from the Academy) Faisal still holds to the trappings of the Risan culture in which she was raised. Her quarters and ready room are decorated with Risan objets d’art, including horga’hns, suggesting a cultural significance above and beyond what’s commonly associated with the statues.
Out of uniform, Faisal loves to party, though she never allows this tendency to endanger her career. Faisal's affinity for a good time often leads to her being asked to help organize celebrations, including weddings.
